Who says a woman can’t be as good in the garage as she is in the kitchen?

It’s been a long, grueling journey for us ladies, attempting to break the stereotype and make our presence known in a world that relies on our devices to secure its future.

Literally.

Sports, aviation, law and politics—we’ve slowly and steadily penetrated the most challenging male-dominated fields and reclaimed our right to get in and stay there!

Gone are the days of sweltering in the kitchen with a cream-colored apron tied neatly around your petite waist, doing a balancing act with pencil heels and a figure-hugging dress on your hour-glass frame in a stuffy kitchen. No longer do you have to race against time, re-applying lipstick between setting the table for a roast dinner you spent hours to prepare, scurrying across the kitchen as you keep checking the clock, anticipating a deep voice uttering the notorious words: “Honey, I’m home!

As you contemplate the obstacles of pursuing your dream career in a field that falls under the domain of man, remind yourself: it’s your vocation!

What makes me the right spokesperson?

Well, for one thing, I’m a walking testament to the old saying, “Those who can, do!”

Being the youngest of 5 siblings, 4 of them being brothers, I grew up with a strong interest in sports and mechanics. Whether it was playing rugby or soccer, changing a light-bulb or fixing the drain pipes, I was there—front and center, putting my brothers to shame!

I was fortunate enough to be raised by two incredibly supportive and adventurous parents who taught me to be independent and go against the tide to follow my heart. With a growing interest in power tools, interior design and automotive repairs, it wasn’t too long before I realized my passion for home improvement.

Now, after 15+ years of trial and error, a husband who trusts me with his (comparatively smaller) toolkit, and twin boys who keep us both young at heart, I can safely say: this is my vocation!

I’m Roxy, a 35 year old contractor, mother, freelance writer, wife and mountain-climber (in no particular order, ahem) — doing what I do best: maintaining and repairing homes with my lipstick intact!

Join me on my journey to learn about the fascinating world of home improvement — and why being a woman makes it all the more exciting!
